Privacy Policy

Menuha ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the Menuha mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Location Data. Menuha asks for your city or approximate location solely to calculate accurate Shabbat candle-lighting and Havdalah times using the Hebcal API. We do not track your movement, store GPS coordinates on our servers, or share your location with third parties. Location data is stored locally on your device.

Partner Information. If you choose to add a Trusted Partner, you provide a name and phone number. This information is stored only on your device and is used exclusively to display your partner's name within the app and to share an override code. We do not transmit partner contact details to our servers.

Shabbat Observance History. Your observance records (dates and observed/missed status) are stored locally on your device via MMKV. This data is never uploaded to our servers.

Purchase & Billing. Subscription and one-time purchase transactions are processed by RevenueCat and Google Play. We do not store payment card details. RevenueCat may collect anonymized purchase data subject to their own privacy policy.

Notifications. If you enable Pre-Shabbat Reminders, Menuha schedules local notifications on your device. We do not use push notification infrastructure or send notifications from our servers.

2. How We Use Information

To calculate and display accurate Shabbat times for your location
To track your observance streak and lifetime count locally
To deliver scheduled reminders before Shabbat begins
To verify subscription status and unlock paid features

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

3. Data Storage & Security

All personal data — location, partner details, observance history, and preferences — is stored exclusively on your device using encrypted local storage. No personal data is transmitted to Menuha's servers during normal app operation.

4. Third-Party Services

Hebcal. Shabbat times are fetched from the Hebcal public API. Your city name and coordinates may be included in this request. Hebcal's privacy policy governs their handling of this data.

RevenueCat. In-app purchases are managed through RevenueCat. Their service may collect device identifiers and purchase metadata. See revenuecat.com/privacy.

Google Play. The app is distributed via Google Play. Google's privacy practices apply to app installation and billing.

5. Device Permissions

Menuha requests the following Android permissions:

Device Administrator — required to lock the phone screen during Shabbat
Display Over Other Apps — required to show the Shabbat wall overlay
Post Notifications — required to deliver Pre-Shabbat Reminders (Android 13+)

These permissions are used only for their stated purpose and are never used to collect data.

6. Children's Privacy

Menuha is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
